FATRA was established by the Bata concern 82 years ago. Since the Fatra has risen to become a significant player in the European market of plastics processing and offers top products, development activities and consulting services. The sustainable approach we have adopted is aimed at improving the quality of life for everyone now and for generations to come. Fatra´s products and technology limit the negative impact on the environment. One of the pillars of this sustainability strategy is in line with a circular economy model, whereby new products are made from recycled material, hence not consuming more of the Earth´s limited resources . Fatra has been recycling plastics for a long time, and recently decided to expand beyond this. To this end, IKEA and Fatra have created a joint project for collecting waste polyethylene foil from the packaging material from IKEA´s stores or their suppliers, recycling it and turning into a new products for IKEA.
We were looking for a suitable product and the desk pad SKRUTT won out. The flexible, black or white, lightweight pad protects desks or other surfaces, e.g. flooring, in the home. Fatra launched a new recycling production line with the capacity of 6.000 tons two years ago. Further production capacity increase is planned in order to utilize the benefits of such a circular economy model in our business.
